WHAT IS POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?
Post-weight loss surgery, also called post-bariatric surgery, is a procedure that eliminates excess, sagging skin that often remains after weight loss to accentuate the results that a patient has achieved during their weight loss journey. After achieving weight loss through gastric bypass surgery or other means, the lack of elasticity in the remaining skin can leave a person feeling discouraged. During post-weight loss surgery, we remove skin and stubborn fat to help patients enjoy increased comfort, better-fitting clothes, and improved quality of life. HOW MUCH DOES POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY COST?
The cost of your post-weight loss surgery at Eko Plastic Surgery will vary depending on the treatment plan we develop for you. During your consultation, Dr. Eko will discuss your cosmetic goals and treatment needs in order to determine the treatment approach that best suits you. WHAT IS THE POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY PROCEDURE LIKE?
The post-weight loss procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. The incisions and techniques involved in your procedure will depend on the areas of the body being targeted as well as the extent of surgery required to produce your desired results. Dr. Eko strives to use the smallest and most discreet incisions possible in order to minimize scarring and reduce the recovery period. Given the number of procedures that are often involved in post-weight loss surgery, the treatment can take several hours to perform.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE AFTER POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?
After post-weight loss surgery, there is an initial recovery period of at least two weeks. During this time, you can expect swelling, bruising, and varying discomfort. Patients will need to take time off of work and other activities in order to let the body heal properly. In addition, you will have to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least a month or two after your procedure. Dr. Eko may give you additional recovery instructions that include compression garments, drains, or other precautions depending on your procedure.
WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM POST WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?
The results from your post-weight loss surgery will be visible immediately, although you may not be able to notice the full results of treatment until swelling and other side effects begin to fade. The results from post-weight loss surgery are permanent, but it is important to note that significant changes in weight may alter your results. For this reason, we encourage patients to maintain a healthy diet and exercise habits following their procedure.
