Fat grafting is a procedure that redistributes the fat removed via liposuction to another area of the body where it can be placed for better contouring. Fat deposits from the buttocks, abdomen, or arms can be used to plump up cheeks or other areas of the body that are less endowed or that have sunken with time.
The face is one area that can look old and worn when fatty tissues diminish and the muscle structure below the skin weakens. Fat from unattractive bags under the eyes or other areas of the body can be used to make the cheeks look fuller and more youthful. Similarly, transferred fat can improve the appearance of hands which prominently show veins, tendons, and ligaments as fatty tissues diminish. The process can also raise and fill out a flat butt to give a more desirable look.
Once fat is removed from the body, it is purified in a centrifuge to remove impurities and then injected back into the target areas. To complete the process, the needle is inserted several times to create a grid of fat.
After the process, the areas where fat is injected will appear swollen and overly augmented. Once the swelling subsides, the true results are most evident in 3 to 4 months. Typically, part of the injected fat absorbs back into the body within a few months, but a competent plastic surgeon like Dr. Eko from Eko Plastic Surgery performs the procedure in the best way to achieve lasting results.
