A facelift is a surgical procedure that eradicates fine lines and wrinkles and removes excess skin from around the eyes and jawline to give the face a rejuvenated look. It addresses problems such as sagging skin, deep lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth, jowls, loose neck skin or turkey neck, and fat that has fallen or disappeared from the cheeks, resulting in a sunken look.
To address these problems, facelift surgery often includes the addition of facial fillers to restore youthful facial contours, skin resurfacing, fat grafting and other surgeries such as eyelid lifts and forehead and eyebrow lifts. While a facelift does not stop aging or drop decades from the appearance of the face, it knocks five to six years off the appearance when done by itself and twice this when done in conjunction with other procedures.
At Eko Plastic Surgery, Dr. Eko designs a customized plan for your procedure based on your needs. Most facelift procedures lift and reposition facial issues, add volume where it has been lost, and remove excess facial skin, to produce a more youthful appearance of the face. The facelift incisions are usually hidden around the ears and in the hairline. Additional incisions may be placed under the chin to achieve the effects of a neck lift. A facelift procedure usually takes a few hours to complete, depending on the number of additional procedures being performed at the same time. The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis and requires a recovery period of 10 days to two weeks. The effects of a facelift should last for 10 to 15 years.
