Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, removes excess fat and skin from the upper arm to reshape the body. Often due to heredity or aging or after weight loss, the arm can droop and sag such that not even exercise can tone it back up. Through a series of incisions, the procedure removes skin that has lost elasticity, underlying weakened tissues, and localized fat deposits from the armpit to the elbow. Once skin is smoothed over the new contour of your arm, you look trimmer and years younger, which is why this surgery has soared in popularity over the last few years.

Good candidates for arm lifts include healthy adults who are not significantly overweight and whose weight is stable. Mastectomy patients cannot have the surgery, as the lymphatic circulation of the arm is too fragile to withstand the risks of brachioplasty. After arm lift surgery, the results are permanent, but substantial weight gain or loss can diminish the results. Ideally, you should stay within 20 pounds of your ideal weight after the surgery. The procedure has risks such as potential scarring, bruising, and swelling, but most side effects usually subside within 7 to 10 days.

Dr. Eko from Eko Plastic Surgery offers consultations on arm lifts. After discussing your surgical goals, he will take photographs and present options and likely outcomes of your surgery. If you are considering other plastic surgery procedures, he may be able to schedule them at the same time.
